Questions

Can you play outside?

Cermonies

The concert harp needs to stand on a firm, even surface and if the weather is changable I will need overhead cover. (I have managed to squeeze into some pretty small gazebos with the wedding party!).

Drinks Reception

I can use either my concert or celtic harp although the celtic harp is preferable because I can move around the grounds if need be. (The celtic harp has a very strong sound which carries well).

Do I need to provide a meal for you?

No ....but it’s always nice to be offered a drink

Can you play in one room and then move to another?

Yes. I am quite used to doing this –but it will take me about 10 minutes to do so.

How much space do you need?

I need very little space. Four square feet is adequate. Also, I’ve never yet found that I cannot squeeze into a gazebo with the bride, groom, registrar and celebrant.

Do you need amplification?

The harp has an amazingly strong tone that carries well and no amplification is needed. However, when playing for a larger group (over 80 guests) who are all chatting during a meal it can be harder to hear the harp. Usually positioning the harp halfway down the room solves this problem. You can have amplification if you wish but you will need to arrange this yourself with the venue.

Do I need to select music?

For a ceremony, you will need to choose music for the entry of the bride, signing of the registers and exit of bride and groom. Before the ceremony I have a selection of beautiful melodies that set a calm and romantic atmosphere. For the drinks reception and meal I try to play a range of styles so that there is something recognisable for all the age groups often represented in a wedding. If there is something you would not like me to play – do let me know.

Can you move the harp up steps?

My harp trolley is a stair climber and I can manage a few steps. It is difficult to take the harp up a flight of stairs but I can manage with help. It’s helpful to be forewarned.
